Our local Air Experience Flight operates from RAF Woodvale, in Formby, flying the new Grob 115 Tutor aircraft. When it's your turn you are taken out to the aircraft and strapped in before taxiing out for your flight - which usually lasts between 20-30 minutes. During this time your pilot will encourage you to take the controls and perform some basic manoeuvers. After you've flown a few times you can find yourself at the controls performing aerobatics like loops and barrel rolls.

The Bulldog (left) has now been replaced by the Grob Tutor which has been designed specifically for the purposes of giving air experience flying and instruction. The side-by-side seating creates the perfect environment for learning to fly and fully immerses the student in the experience of flight. The cockpit is modern with up to state-of-the-art instrumentation which is clearly visible from either seat.

While the Tutor is the primary Air Experience aircraft, occasionally Air Cadets will have the opportunity to fly some of the Air Forces more advanced aircraft. Air Cadets from Merseyside Wing have taken to the skies in Wessex and Sea-King hellicopters and even in dual seat jet aircraft such as the hawk or Tornado! Flying is fun, exciting and it is all a part of life in Merseyside Wing ATC!
