The Grob 109 has established itself as a class leader amongst other motorgliders. With a 28:1 glide ratio and excellent cruise performance through the variable pitch propeller, the G109 "Vigilant" is an excellent all round performer. Providing 16 yr old and upward cadets with the opportunity to solo in a powered aircraft and giving other Cadets a first "hands on" flight experience, the 109 is a great alternative to conventional gliding.

The Vigilant is designed as a primary training aircraft and as such displays relatively docile stall characteristics and is stable in the air and on the ground. Despite its inherent stability, the Vigilant remains a challenging aircraft to fly, especially with its large wingspan and low weight which makes the aircraft buoyant in strong winds.
